On Stage

Ok, friends and familia, time to revisit the old blog and talk a bit about the going ons in the big City.

As we all know the work situation for artists, writers, actors, performers and other cultural laborers has been tough in the island of Puerto Rico for the past several years, and it does not seem to be getting any better, sad to say.

But, hey, things are tough all over.

Hardships aside, there are lots of talented people that moved to the City in search of a brighter future (and a tolerable present, at least) and are making strides in the local cultural scene. Kuddos to you all!

The proof is in the putting:

----------

Pregones Theater makes an ambitious and bold attempt with it's new play The Harlem Hellfighters On A Latin Beat, by transferring to the stage part of the life of musician and composer Rafael Hernández, one of our most beloved and internationally recognizable assets, during a pivotal period of our collective experience.

The play assumes its subject matter from an interesting perspective bringing forth some insightful information about that experience and how affected the artist, his peers, his family and the country as a whole.

A mixture of music, history and the clash of cultures is always a welcome recipe for interesting theater experimentation. The Harlem Hellfighters On A Latin Beat benefits from the strength of a solid cast, headed by veteran singer Danny Rivera. One of the big surprises of the premiere night's performance, at least for me, was the singing voice of Yaraní Del Valle: sweet, strong, clear and very moving. Her roller-skating rendition of Victoria Hernández was a strange apparition on stage, yet her presence and singing performance was definitely a gift to the senses.

In the able hands of experienced thespian, playwright and cultural promoter Rosalba Rolón, the story of the military experience of our guys takes a new dimension, highlighting an important chapter of our troubled relationship with the United States with a light touch and an unblinking look.

The Harlem Hellfigthers On A Latin Beat, showed to sold out audiences during the Fall Season, promises to return to the Pregones Stage in the South Bronx this next Spring.

Another hard working stage crew comes from the folks at Nueva Escena. Modesto Lacén, a close friend and collaborator is also contributing to the effort of keeping our talent busy.

His latest production features the beautiful, multitalented and energetic Sunilda Caraballo in the one woman show Harware Dreams, an enjoyable trip down memory lane Santurce style.

Full of energy and fun family situations, the monologue, written by Sunilda, takes a look a what is like to grow up in an urban Caribbean setting with some hilarious results. Lets hope that they show this again soon, so more people can share the experience.

Just so you know, Modesto was awarded one of this year's coveted Hola Awards and is also the host of the internet TV Show Hollywood... Se Habla Español, produced by yours truly and set to debut soon on a computer near you. Don't forget to click on Terramax.biz and show your support.

Actor and voice talent Ivan Camilo is also working hard on some upcoming surprises. Is always good to hear that he is keeping busy. Can't wait to see what he is preparing for his public and fans, though I have an idea (wink, wink).

Also busy are our friends Carina Casiano and Daniel Irizarri with the play The Orphans at The Club at La MaMa ETC, show continues this weekend until Dec. 12. Don't miss it!

And of course the staples of Latino Theater in The City: the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater and Repertorio Español always keep doing their thing.

So, you see, its not all that bad. Lets keep it that way. Until the next installment, for now let the curtain fall, standing ovation, please, and thank you, very much.

Will keep you posted.

I've always liked things like sand clocks, lava lamps, and the like to good of just fritter away in days of yore staring at it as a cut of catharsis. In a opportunity, it helps me with meditation, to reduce lay stress and scarcely deem in the air nothing. That's why since I was a kid, instead of dolls and cars I've eternally collected more of such pieces like sand clocks, lava lamps, harmonious boxes etc. So I was most delighted when I found the 2-Laser + LED Spry Presentation Laser Crown Gyroscope with Music Effects from DealtoWorld.com under the Toys section. It's like a harmonious caddy, a spinning better, and a berate divulge all rolled into one. Which is great entertainment! The gyroscope transfer whirl for about a minute. The laser explanation manifest with accompanying music makes this gyroscope a rather corresponding exactly fiddle with that my friends be subjected to also been most amused with.

My dogs are also pretty curious about the laser gyroscope I got from DealtoWorld.com. They evermore attend the gyroscope as it spins, although at principal they kept barking at the laser light accompany, and also because it produces music. But after they got worn it, they've stopped barking but virtuous keep following the gyroscope whenever I start spinning it. Kids are also unbelievably amused alongside it. On occasion it's meet to possess entertaining toys about the ancestry so that you can go away the diminutive on while the kids are being amused or playing with it while you open to fit out scoff or get changed. The gyroscope is one such play with with this purpose.

The gyroscope I bought from DealtoWorld.com has a dragon as a map on it, and produces a gegenschein indicate with red, downcast, and unskilled colours. Nick a look at the pictures I've uploaded of the gyroscope with laser luminosity show. The music produced from the gyroscope is not that expert but facts enough to treat any chic roomer to the house. The gyroscope is red and black, making it look extraordinarily cool, and to some masculine with that dragon imprint.

The music flare show gyroscope runs on 6 LR44 batteries, which are replaceable anyway. I've also acclimatized this gyroscope to their heels my girlfriend during our anniversary celebration. I did the cheesy matter of decorating the pension latitude with roses and when I led her in, I started up the gyroscope as affectionately so that the laser light clarify produces a romantic effect. I also had some battery operated candles so all the sunrise effects created a sort of mawkish atmosphere. She loved it, not later than the way, to my relief. I also bought the candles from DealtoWorld.com. These days it seems to be my non-fulfilment shopping site for all gifts and ideas in behalf of romanticist occasions.

Since Christmas is coming, this laser lamp upstage gyroscope can maybe be a talented Christmas gift in behalf of the toddler or neutral the favoured! Alternatively, the gyroscope can absolutely be a kindly addition to the ordinary Christmas decorations. I can take it as given placing it adjoining the Christmas tree and maybe spinning it when guests hit town in the house. Looks like DealtoWorld.com is getting my subject yet again!
